0250506 Jesus cures a paralytic – Matthew 9:2-8, Mark 2:1-12, Luke 5:17-26, A.D. 27 Capernaum in Galilee

And when he entered again into Capernaum after some days, it was heard that he was in the house. And it happened on one of those days, that he was teaching; and there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every village of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with him to heal. And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even around the door; and he spoke the word to them. And behold, four people (men) came carrying and brought to him a paralytic man who was paralyzed lying on a bed cot, and they sought to bring him in to lay before him.  And not finding a way to bring him in, when they could not come near to him because of the multitude crowd, they went up to the housetop and they removed the roof where he was.  And when they had broken it up, they let him down through the tiles with his cot mat that the paralytic was lying on into the midst before Jesus.

And Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer.  Man, your sins are forgiven you.  ”But behold, there were some of the scribes and the Pharisees sitting there, and began reasoning in their hearts, and said to themselves, “Who is this that speaks blasphemies?  This man blasphemes.  Why does this man speak blasphemies like that?  Who can forgive sins but God alone?”  And immediately, Jesus, knowing their thoughts and perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, answered and said to them, ”Why do you reason these things and why are you reasoning in your hearts?  Why do you think evil in your hearts?  For which is easier to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you;’ or to say, ‘Arise. Get up, take up your bed and walk?’

But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” (then he said to the paralyzed paralytic man) “I say to you, arise, get up, and take up your bed cot and go up to your house.” And he arose before them and immediately took up the mat which he was laying on and went out in front of them all and departed to his house glorifying God. But when the multitudes saw it, they were all amazed. Amazement took hold on all, and they glorified God, and they were filled with fear, saying, “We have seen strange things today. We never saw anything like this!” They were afraid and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
