0460511 Jesus sails to Capernaum, meets Jairus, and heals the woman – Matthew 9:1; 18-26, Mark 5:21-43, Luke 8:40-56, A.D. 27 Capernaum in Galilee

He entered into a boat, and crossed over, and came into his own city.  And when Jesus had crossed back and returned over in the boat to the other side, he was by the sea, and a great multitude was gathered to him and welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him.  While he told these things to them, behold, there came a man, and he was one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name. And seeing him, he fell down at Jesus’ feet, and was bowing to him, and begged him much to come into his house saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death or has just died, but please come and lay your hands on her, that she may be made healthy, and will live.”  For he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying.

And Jesus got up, went with him and followed him, as did his disciples.  But as he went, a great multitude followed him, and they pressed against him and upon him on all sides.  And behold, a certain woman who had an issue of a flow of blood for twelve years and had suffered many things by many physicians, and who had spent all that she had and all her living on physicians, and could not be healed by any, and was no better, but rather grew worse; she having heard the things concerning Jesus, came up behind him in the crowd and touched his clothes and the fringe of his garment cloak.  For she said within herself, “If only I can just touch his clothes and garment, I will be made well and be saved.”  And immediately the flow of her blood was stopped and dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction. And immediately Jesus, perceiving in himself that the power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd, asked and said, “Who touched my clothes? Who touched me?” And when all denied it, Peter and those with him (his disciples) said to him, “Master, you see the multitude press and crush against you, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’”  But Jesus said, “Someone did touch me, for I perceived that power has gone out of me.” And he looked around to see her who had done this thing. But when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done to her. She came and fell down before him and declared to him all the truth in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.  And Jesus, turning around and having seen her, said to her, “Daughter, cheer up! Your faith has saved you and has made you well. Go in peace and be cured of your disease.”  And the woman was well from that hour.

While he was still speaking, people came and there came one from the synagogue ruler’s house saying to him, “Your daughter is dead.  Why bother the Teacher anymore?  Do not trouble the Teacher.”  But Jesus, hearing it, but not listening to the message spoken, answered him and said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid, only believe and she will be healed.”  And when they came into the synagogue ruler’s house, he did not allow anyone to enter in with him and follow him, except Peter, James, and John the brother of James, and the father of the child, and her mother.  And when he had entered in, Jesus saw an uproar and great wailing, and all were weeping and mourning her and the flute players, and the crowd in noisy disorder.  But he said to them, “Why do you make an uproar and weep?  Do not weep.  Leave, because the girl child is not dead, but is sleeping.”  And they laughed at him and were ridiculing him knowing that she was dead.  But when he, having put the crowd all out, entered and went in and took the father of the child, her mother, and those who were with him, where the child was lying. And he, taking the child by the hand, called and said to her, “Child, arise! Talitha cumi!” which means, being interpreted, “Girl, I say to you, get up!” And her spirit returned, and immediately the girl rose up and walked, for she was twelve years old.  And they were amazed with great amazement.  And her parents were amazed, but he strictly ordered them that no one should know what had been done, and he commanded that something should be given to her to eat. And the report of this went out into all that land.
